PIN UP DIVAS AND POSTER BOYS.. :D :D

There was a time we were crazy about pop stars.. girl groups and boy bands. We used to go ‘Oooo’ and ‘Ahhh’ whenever we see them, going all jumpy and mushy- gushy! That’s an average teenager. Sticker books, song books, teen books, pin- up posters and teen drama series.. crushes in the tuition class… back when we were teenagers! I used to love that life. Don’t you too?

I found this Edward Cullen the Twilight vampire’s adoring poster last week and didn’t have a heart to throw it away. I pasted in my bedroom door, so that when I wake up in the morning I see the vampire staring at me from his glittering eyes. My mom saw the ‘guy’ in the bedroom door and got confused and asked me ‘who’s the guy in the door?’. I said ‘That’s my Vampire!’. She was worried that the thick cello tape would damage the polished door. Well… The vampire still stays there. You know.. When I was pinning up that poster on the door like a 16 year old, my whole teenage life flashed right in front of me. What a wonderful life it was!

I too used to have pin up stars in my room. There was a smiling Angelina Jolie, Gangster looking Avril Lavigne, Calm and smiley Shania Twain and oh so handsome Tom Cruise right upon my study table. I used to cut and keep the pictures of pop stars and song lyrics from weekend newspapers. Whenever the holiday month comes, I find a binder gum bottle, a ‘platignum’ set and colored pens and start adding up more new songs to my song books. I had a plenty of them, lovely and neat with loads of pictures and neat decorations. I usually used a pop star poster to the cover page and gave the finishing touch to my precious thing with a polythene cover.

I remember the book I made with colorful feathers, pictures and details of birds. I used to collect feathers at every chance I got. Back in school times, me & my best friend used to roam around the teak trees in the basket ball court of the school to find them. Good times!

Crushes came in all kinds, in many variations. Pop stars, rock stars, actors or sport stars, come what may! Tiger Woods, Leo Di Caprio, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise in one side and Backstreet Boys, Boyzone, N’Sync with Pet Shop boys on the other side. Britney Spears came out singing ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ and me and my friends used to sing it with her same carefree attitude.

My Biology class used to be a less-fun place, so me and my friends divided the cute guys in the class among us to keep watch. My counterpart was a good looking, posh, always-smiling Royalist. He always used to come to class with three quarter pants. I had a habit of drawing the people around me in cartoons. Even now I do the same thing. So.. When I was starting to feel bored one day, I drew him with his three quarter pants, showing off his hairy legs and highlighting the very hairy legs! One moment, my friends were giggling and enjoying the picture. When I turned the head again, the piece of paper with my crush’s hairy legs was actually in HIS HANDS! OMG! I so much needed to dig the cement floor and hide under a worm tunnel! Hehe.. There goes my crush! He just smiled over the whole thing, thanks to god!

Life was so wonderful at that time. The time I used to ride my brother’s bicycle with wind in my hair.. the time we used to play badminton and net ball till we get all sweaty and thirsty… Wow.. I loved that life.. Looking back at that time, I sure feel that I have enjoyed that life. I guess you have too. Life is to enjoy.. and life is to be happy. Pin up divas and poster boys added a hint of color to my life back then… and it draws a smile on my face to remember all those lovely teenage moments and adventure I used to have! Don’t you feel the same too?

TEA LEAVES.. DON'T THROW THEM AWAY..!!

Tea..!! Sounds delicious in the middle of a hard day, right? We all love tea. But what do we all do to the used tea leaves? We simply throw them to the waste basket. Well.. Let me tell you something you can do with these used tea leaves.. which can actually ‘lighten up’ your face!
When you go to wash your face in the morning, take some of these used tea leaves. Add a tiny amount of hot water.. and rub the tea leaves in your face and massage the face very well.. Wash your face and dry it with a towel. Now.. look at the mirror? You sure will see a difference. Your face is so very clean and it has lightened up very clearly. This is as good as any cleanser or a clean-up. It simply removed the dead cells in your face, better than a deep cleanser and removes the ‘darkness’ in your face.

It works! Try it and see. It really WILL work and you guys will thank me for sharing this little secret with you guys.

HERE COMES THE TOP 10...

It was another fantastic year for movies, which a lot of massive scale movies lightened up the movie universe. Hope you didn’t miss the best ones too. So.. What are the best 10 of the last year? Check out the list and make sure you didn’t miss any. Here comes the top 10 box office movies of 2009!

Number 10: The Blind Side
Total Gross: $184,387,000
Boasting no explosions, CGI robots or vampires, but propelled by good word-of-mouth, this inspirational drama climbed its way into the number ten spot over the Christmas holiday weekend. I watched this yesterday. It’s about a homeless child who later finds a happy home with a kind family and groomed to be a popular rugby star. It’s a beautiful story.

Number 9: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Total Gross: $196,573,705
Not only did the prehistoric critter crew return for their biggest box office outing yet, the third 'Ice Age' adventure conquered the number 2 spot at the worldwide box office with a massive $883.7 million. This is the best out of the 3 Ice Age movies, as I see. This one is so funny and there wasn’t a single moment I was bored till the moment I started to watch it.

Number 8: Monsters Vs. Aliens
Total Gross: $198,351,526
In a crowded field of animated titles this year, this monstrous adventure towered over the pack, stepping into the top ten with one of the biggest spring opening weekends ever. Well… I didn’t like this one better than Ice Age 3. Yet it’s an OK movie for me..

Number 7: AVATAR
Total Gross: $212,268,000
Arguably one of the most anticipated movies of the decade, director James Cameron's visionary sci-fi epic leaped into the top ten during the final weeks of the year. No need of any explanations. This is an awesome one, right guys?

Number 6: Star Trek
Total Gross: $257,730,019
Live long and prosper! Director J.J. Abrams' bold re-imagining of the classic sci-fi franchise proved popular with both old and new fans alike, easily grossing more than any previous Star Trek movie. This too is an OK movie. But never better than Avatar for me.

Number 5: The Hangover
Total Gross: $277,322,503
Easily the surprise breakout hit of the summer, this tawdry tale of the ultimate Vegas bachelor party gone wrong defied all expectations to become the number one R-rated comedy of all time. I’m sure the GUYS out there didn’t miss it. I loved it too. The best part for me was the guys finding famous Mike Tyson’s pet tiger in their hotel bathroom after a sober, crazy and wild nightout.

Number 4: The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Total Gross: $280,924,000
Hot off the success of 2008's 'Twilight,' the second installment of Stephanie Meyers' supernatural romance saga wolfed down a record-breaking $72,703,754 for the highest opening day earnings of all time. I didn’t watch this one yet cz I’m waiting for a better DVD rip. Hope this is as good as the second book.

Number 3: UP
Total Gross: $293,004,164
The animation wizards at Pixar did it again, soaring to number three, nabbing the studio its second highest grossing movie ever (behind Finding Nemo), and becoming the highest grossing 3D movie of all time. This is so sweet. However, not funnier than the Ice Age movie as well. Hope you loved the multi colored big bird in the movie as well as the ‘ballooned’ home.

Number 2: HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE
Total Gross: $301,959,197
The popular teen wizard returned for his sixth year at Hogwarts to grab second place, but cast a powerful spell on the worldwide box office, taking the top spot with a magical $929.4 million. I don’t think this is the best Harry Potter movie ever made. As the book implies, the movie is ‘darker’ itself. It’s just the flow of the book. Proves again that the books are better than their movie counterparts. Hope you guys will agree with me.

Number 1: TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN
Total Gross: $402,111,870
Autobots battled Decepticons to the top of the box office, not only becoming the top earning movie of the year, but also firmly planting itself at number 9 among the top ten highest domestic grossing films of all time. Well… No need to say again. This is awesome… and the best way to watch it was in widescreen.

Well.. We’ll have a good 2010 with a good line up of movies too. Iron Man 2, Alice in Wonderland, The Twilight Saga : Eclipse, Cats & Dogs part 2 and Harry Potter and the Deathly hallows Part 1 are some of them.

Check them out:

Let’s keep our fingers crossed guys!

COOK AS JULIA CHILD... :D

In my previous post, I told you guys that I’m gonna learn some good cooking as a ‘little’ thing in my New Year resolution plan. I already started it and I’m so happy about it. I was not a girl who was always sticked around the kitchen. I thought I can’t cook, to be honest. But you know… to know whether you can’t exactly do a thing or you can’t do a thing, you should try it. Without trying anything, you can’t exactly say whether you can or can’t do a thing.

I recently discovered that I CAN actually cook. I mean.. I did cook in the past. But I was never sure about my cooking. Up to now, the things I cooked came out well. The last thing I cooked was a Batter Fried Cuttlefish curry. It came out good and everybody liked it. So I thought I’ll continue cooking :D

Julia Child… Any idea who this is? She’s the one woman who taught French cooking to America. I watched a nice movie. It’s called ‘Julie and Julia’. Julia is Julia Child herself and Julie is a girl who lives in modern times who loves Julia Child’s cooking and makes her boring life successful by using Julia Child’s wonderful cook book. Julia Child refers to cooking as an art. Isn’t it fascinating? Well.. For all you girls out there who loves to cook, I’m gonna tell you about this unique cook book. I’ve come across many cook books. But I’ve never seen a cook book like this one. It’s a special one. It’s called ‘Mastering the Art of French Cooking’, published in 1961.

It’s in simple language, as in the language we ‘talk’. All her thoughts are written in the book in this simple language too. She introduces kitchen equipments and tells how to use them in the proper way. She even tells us how to hold the knives properly. She teaches us how to cut vegetables in proper shape and in the proper way. She explains the terms we use in cooking too (i.e.: beat, blend, boil). The measures and temperature conversions are in the book itself.

There’s a section she explains about wines. The book comprises of 10 chapters. Each of these 10 chapters include a large number of delicious recipes. Chapter 1: Soups, Chapter 2: Sauces, Chapter 3: Eggs, Chapter 4: Entrees and Luncheon Dishes, Chapter 5: Fish, Chapter 6: Poultry, Chapter 7: Meat, Chapter 8: Vegetables, Chapter 9: Cold Buffet and Chapter 10: Desserts and Cakes.

My lady friends.. This is a good cook book to have. Julia’s most famous dish is boeuf bourguignon. (It’s made of beef, but I don’t eat beef, btw) It’s pronounced as ‘Boof Boginiyan’. It’s in the book too. She does wonders with butter and sauces. Watch the movie ‘Julie and Julia’ and see for yourself, girls! I’m not sure if you can find the book in the book store. So here’s link to get it from isoHunt as a torrent.

http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/134846069/julia+child+mastering+the+art+of+french+cooking?tab=summary

Well.. Have a look at the book girls, (and guys, if you’re interested too) and tell me how the cooking goes.

AS 2010 STARTS....

Happy New Year my friends… It’s the start of another new year. Hope you guys are also having so many hopes and dreams for the New Year. We all do, don’t we? 2009 ended in a good way to the country, with the end of the war. I think that was the best thing happened to everybody in the country. Now we see everyone visiting Jaffna and Trinco in a rush and we see loads of pics uploaded in FB on that.. lolzz.. Finally, this is a free country.

Did you make a New Year resolution list for 2010 too?? Well.. We don’t exactly write them down. At least all of us mind map our New Year resolutions, don’t we? But hey.. almost all the things in that list are ‘bigger’ things. That’s where we all do a wrong. How? If we have big dreams and we can achieve all of them, it’s superb. What I meant to say is.. most of the time, we forget little things… and at the end of the year, if we look back, those ‘big’ things.. well… not all of them, they still remain. So… at the end of the year, your New Year resolution list comes as a ‘wish list’ rather than a ‘check list’.

What I’m telling is, when you make New Year resolutions, don’t include only big things. Add up little things also. Little things DO matter a lot. Because, someday, the little things you do will add up a huge value to your life.

So. What exactly are these little things? Well.. Let me tell you. For this year… I plan to start an MBA and find a happy job in a small place. Those are ‘big’ things.. Now.. 3 little things I planned out for this year are, One : growing some good vegetables in the garden and look after them cz I always loved it… Two: Learn some good cooking cz I feel that I should. Three: Start my guitar lessons again.. There are a lot more ‘little’ things… Read so many books.. watch good movies.. travel to North.. and the list continues.

There are so many little things you can do too. Change the way you look. Get a new haircut. Get some good clothes. Smile a lot. Meet your friends often. Stop the running of life to watch a good movie.. read a good book. Adore your pet often. Give a surprise gift to your mom… Start exercising… See?? There are a lot more little things you can do.

Life is good with little things, trust me. For me, they matter a lot. Even waking up in the morning and hearing the sound of the wind chime dancing in the wind is a big ‘little thing’ to me. So my dear friends…. Good luck with the New Year. Hope you guys had a good heads up. Don’t worry about the 2012 phenomena though… Lolzz.. (As the Mayan calendar says) You STILL have two more years to enjoy life..
