Customs and traditions contains parts which are mandatory and applicable to all ages, and some optional "need adaptation" parts. Some can be completely optional. If we lack this understanding, all people, including those who love traditions, will also appear to us as those who don't love traditions.
The customs which were there 300 years ago is definitely very different from what was there 800 years ago. They evolve according to the technology, lifestyle, etc... But still the spirit and the custom itself - as a whole - doesn't change.
